Keeping History Alive at Our Museum

COLLECTION

VOLUNTEER

You don't need to be an expert in history to volunteer!!!

The Museum welcomes the help that Friends give to make visitors' experiences more rewarding. Volunteers at the front desk greet people as they enter the Museum and encourage them to enjoy the historical displays in the building, Greeters enjoy chatting about the local area but can refer to Museum staff when necessary. To read about one greeter's rewarding experience, download Dr. Tony's Reports.

The Friends also volunteer at events which they organize or assist at; for example, the very successful Tamiami Trail 80th Anniversary Celebration and the annual Marjory Stoneman Douglas Festival. To read more about the 2-dayTamiami-80 celebration, download the Tamiami80 News.

The Museum is open Tuesday through Saturday, except for County and National holidays. The usual shifts at the greeters' desk are 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. but different hours can be arranged. Stop in at the Museum to volunteer or phone (239) 695-0008.

Greeting visitors to the Museum is an important and enjoyable activity for the Friends.

The Friends organized a 2-day event in April 2008 to celebrate the 80th Anniversary of the Tamiami Trail and the Museum's 10th Birthday.
